The Home Secretary made a surprise inspection of the Mid Day Meal Kitchen in Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 47-D, Chandigarh being run by NGO- Swami Sewa Nand Memorial Institute, New Delhi. He alongwith DPI(S) checked the quality of Karhi which was being prepared and also rice. He directed the DPI(S) to take up with the Food Corporation of India to improve the quality of rice being supplied for the Mid Day Meal. He also checked the stock register and the availability of stock of Atta, Rice and other items and detected no irregularity. He also inspected the kitchen shed for the preparation of Mid Day Meal at a cost of Rs. 20.00 lacs. So far seven kitchen sheds have been constructed in the Union Territory at a cost of Rs. 20.00 lacs each. He directed the DPI(S) to immediately take up preparations of meals from one centralized kitchen to different places so that the children could be served hot meal without exposure to longer transportation routes which may expose it to dust.

The Home Secretary also inspected the Mid Day Meal preparations at CIHM,Sector 42. He checked the quality of green vegetables being used for the Mid Day Meal which was found satisfactory. He also checked the quality of Dal which was being prepared. The quality was very good, however, he suggested that the quantity of water for dal should be reduced so that some more nutrients could be provided to the students. The overall hygiene and stock position was satisfactory.

The Home Secretary also visited Govt. school Sector 56 and interacted with the students regarding quality of Mid Day Meal. He also checked the Parantha and Rajmaah which had been served to the students. The students expressed their satisfaction. However, some students expressed that the quantity of parantha should be improved. Some students suggested that the pepper and Masala should be increased in food. Some students stated that the parantha being served was not soft. The Home Secretary noted the feed back from the students and asked the IHM, CIHM and NGO preparing Mid Day Meal to improve the quality of Mid Day Meal based on the feed back of the students. He also asked the DPI(S) to introduce a feed back form for the students so that the students could give their suggestions regarding the quality of Mid Day Meal on monthly basis.
