Heavy Rain Turns Mumbai Roads into Rivers: Locals Struggle to Move

INVC NEWS
Mumbai   — :  The Mumbai woke up to heavy rain that caused massive waterlogging, bringing the city to a halt. The downpour started late last night and continued through the morning, flooding roads, halting trains, and closing schools in many areas.

Local Trains Running Late, Roads Jammed

Mumbai’s lifeline—the local train service—is facing serious delays. Many trains on the Central, Western, and Harbour lines are running 15 to 30 minutes late. Commuters at Dadar, Andheri, and Kurla stations are stranded in large numbers. Roads from Sion to Dahisar, and Chembur to CST, are completely clogged with water and vehicles.

People going to work faced huge traffic jams due to knee-deep water at major intersections. BEST buses had to divert routes, and taxis were hard to find. Traffic police have advised people to avoid low-lying areas like King’s Circle, Hindmata, and Milan Subway.

Schools Closed, Exams Postponed

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice early morning asking all schools and junior colleges to remain closed for safety. Several private schools have also postponed exams, leaving parents confused and worried.

Students who had already left for school in the early hours had to return halfway due to rising water on roads. School vans and autorickshaws were stuck in waterlogged streets in Ghatkopar, Malad, and Borivali.

Weather Department Issues Red Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the city and nearby areas like Thane, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, and Raigad. The alert means that extremely heavy rainfall is expected to continue for the next 48 hours.

Citizens are being warned to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Emergency helplines are active, and the BMC has opened control rooms to track flood-related problems and help people stuck in water.

Flights Affected, Airport Operations Hit

Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport are facing disruptions. At least 25 flights have been delayed due to poor visibility and runway congestion. Airport officials said that some flights may be diverted if the rain continues.

Travelers have been advised to check with airlines before heading to the airport. Videos of water seeping into airport terminal roads are going viral on social media.

Rescue Teams on Alert, Pumps Activated

BMC’s disaster management teams, fire brigade, NDRF, and other rescue units are on standby. Water pumps have been activated at chronic flood spots. Police and civic teams are using boats and ropes in certain low areas where cars and bikes are almost fully submerged.

People are posting visuals of stuck vehicles, floating garbage, and broken manhole covers, warning others to stay alert and avoid traveling unnecessarily.

Mumbai Underwater Once Again as Monsoon Grips the City

Heavy rain has brought Mumbai to a standstill once again. With schools closed, trains delayed, roads blocked, and rescue teams on alert, citizens are praying for relief from the non-stop downpour. Weather officials are closely monitoring the situation and will continue updating alerts as needed.
