GST 2.0: New Rates Take Effect from September 22
The Indian market is gearing up for GST 2.0, which comes into effect from Monday, September 22. The new structure simplifies GST into two main slabs of 5% and 18%, while luxury and non-essential goods will attract a 40% tax. Tobacco products remain in the 28% plus cess category.
Currently, GST is levied under four slabs—5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. The government has directed industries to ensure that the revised tax benefits are fully passed on to consumers.
