Global Awards Season and Entertainment Milestones 2025

Los Angeles / Mumbai  : The global entertainment industry is entering peak momentum as awards season intensifies, milestone film releases arrive, and streaming platforms roll out fresh content worldwide.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) recently announced nominees across sports, children’s, and shortform categories, following earlier recognition of standout documentaries. The announcements have further fueled awards-season conversations, with performances by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo drawing critical acclaim and industry recognition.

All eyes are now on the 98th Academy Awards, as the shortlist for Best International Feature Film is set to be unveiled on December 16, 2025. A total of 86 countries are eligible this year, highlighting the growing global footprint of cinema and the Academy’s expanding international focus.

Meanwhile, Hollywood and global film industries are celebrating cinematic milestones. Restored classics and special re-releases are making waves, most notably in India, where the original ending of the iconic film Sholay is being showcased publicly for the first time—an event hailed by film historians and fans alike.

On the digital front, OTT platforms are driving strong viewer engagement with December releases that include psychological thrillers, romantic comedies, and prestige dramas across Prime Video, Netflix, and other major streamers. However, not all content has been universally embraced, as recent Ryan Murphy–produced shows continue to spark polarized reactions among critics and audiences.

Celebrity headlines remain equally vibrant. Kate Hudson celebrated the success of Song Sung Blue alongside her family, while Kim Kardashian’s Fortnite collaboration, launching on December 13, underscores the growing crossover between entertainment, gaming, and digital branding.

On a broader scale, production houses are also navigating environmental and technological shifts. According to European Union climate data, 2025 is on track to become the second- or third-hottest year on record, influencing filming schedules and on-location shoots globally. At the same time, the industry is closely watching AI-driven content tools, major studio mergers, and the evolving streaming wars, all of which are expected to reshape entertainment in the years ahead.
