New Delhi – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will embark on a three-day visit to India starting today, Thursday. During this visit, he will engage in extensive discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on topics including trade, green energy, and the enhancement of bilateral strategic relations. Scholz previously visited India twice last year—once in February for a bilateral state visit and again in September for the G20 leaders’ summit.
On October 25, Prime Minister Modi and Chancellor Scholz will co-chair the seventh Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC). Senior ministers from Scholz’s cabinet will also be present during the IGC discussions. Under the framework of the IGC, ministers from both sides will engage in talks within their respective areas of responsibility and report the outcomes to the Prime Minister and Chancellor.
The Ministry of External Affairs recently issued a statement regarding his visit, confirming that Scholz is coming to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. The discussions will cover bilateral cooperation in security and defense, opportunities for talent, economic collaboration, partnerships in green and sustainable development, and emerging strategic technologies. They will also address significant regional and global developments. Additionally, both leaders will speak at the 18th German Business Asia-Pacific Conference taking place in New Delhi on October 25.
