Farmers’ standoff at shambhu border: Key meeting fails to resolve demands

Chandigarh – A meeting was held at Haryana Bhawan in Chandigarh on Monday to consider the demands of the farmers sitting on the Shambhu border. The meeting remained inconclusive and the farmers did not agree to open the Shambhu border of Haryana-Punjab. The meeting was chaired by retired Justice Nawab Singh. Farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the main faces of the farmers’ movement, did not attend the meeting.

The farmers placed their 12 demands before the committee formed by the Supreme Court. The farmers clearly said that their struggle will continue till their demands are met.

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that I will start a hunger strike from the upcoming Parliament session. United Kisan Morcha leader Sarwan Singh Pandher had rejected the invitation of the committee. He said that the road is not blocked by the farmers but by the Haryana government.

Let us tell you that the farmers of Punjab are on strike since February-2024 for the guarantee of MSP on crops. In such a situation, keeping security in mind, the Haryana government had closed the Shambhu border of Haryana and Punjab by putting up barricades. The farmers have set up a permanent front on the border towards Punjab. Movement from there is closed. This is causing problems to the traders of Ambala. Due to this, they had sought refuge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
