Government companies running petrol pumps are providing or are going to provide EV charging facilities at more than 15,000 petrol pumps across the country. 14,450 petrol pumps have opened. Charging Station: According to the data of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas of the Central Government, currently EV charging stations have opened at 14,450 petrol pumps of government oil companies like Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and Bharat Petroleum. A year ago, the number of pumps with charging facility was only 6,700. That means it has more than doubled in just one year.
It is noteworthy that out of all the petrol pumps in the country, 95 percent of the pumps are owned by these government companies. The remaining five percent is held by private sector companies. Among these, Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy has most of the petrol pumps of private sector companies with EV chargers. There are currently around 89,000 petrol pumps running in India. EV charging facilities have now been developed at 17 percent of these pumps.
Indian Oil, the largest retailer of petroleum fuels in the country, has 8,760 filling stations with EV charging facilities. This company currently has a total of 32,000 pumps. This means that about one-fourth of the pumps of this company have EV charging facility. At present, EV charging facility is also available at 3,050 pumps of HPCL and 2,640 pumps of BPCL.
