Telecom News: Ericsson’s India Manufacturing Push
In a landmark announcement at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Swedish telecom giant Ericsson revealed plans to manufacture all telecom equipment sold in India — from 5G networks to advanced 6G prototypes — entirely on Indian soil by 2028.
This strategic shift marks a huge leap toward Atmanirbhar Bharat, reducing import dependency while strengthening India’s position as a global telecom manufacturing hub.
Factories in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will soon buzz with production of base stations, routers, and AI-powered antennas. Ericsson’s VP Andres Vicente highlighted that the move aligns with India’s long-term vision for digital sovereignty, expected to generate thousands of skilled jobs and streamline local supply chains.
With 5G coverage hitting 80% this year and 6G trials anticipated by 2028, Ericsson’s initiative could deliver faster deployment, lower costs, and tech tailored to Indian conditions — from rural IoT for farmers to smart-city integration.
Challenges remain: skill development, raw material sourcing, and maintaining global standards. Yet, if Ericsson executes this vision, it may push other global players like Nokia and Huawei to localize too — supercharging India’s $100 billion telecom ecosystem.
As IMC 2025 continues to spotlight next-gen connectivity, this announcement could define India’s 6G future.
