The Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Mr. Shivraj V. Patil, while addressing 60th Annual Convocation of Panjab University, held here today, emphasized on also imparting scientific and technological, education to students along with focusing on research and development. He said the present day and future world need expertise in science and technology, without which it would be difficult for us to keep pace with other parts of the world. At the same time, he said Universities should impart value based education.
Mr. Patil further said that such kind of education and information would help students in uncovering hidden mysteries of nature. He stressed upon producing knowledge through research and development.
Only than it would be nearer to its objectives, he added.
Congratulating graduates who received their degrees today, Mr. Patil asked them if they leave the University campus with positive attitudes they would be successful in their chosen careers. He said we have large number of young men and women who needs quality education. All of them can be educated, if government, private and foreign
universities, colleges and education institutions are established in large numbers, and cooperate with one another in every possible manner. He said the methods that are used to teach the students needed to be modified. New electronic equipments can be produced to educate large number of students, he added. Appreciating the role of Panjab University, Mr. Patil said that the University is trying to teach is something which is at the horizon of
the world of knowledge and relevant for the immediate medium, and long term future. He said Panjab University is one of the oldest and most reputed University in India. It has produced great economists, scientists, politicians, poets and literary persons.
Earlier, Mr. Patil gave Vigyan Rattan Award to Professor A.K. Sood, Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore.
Prominent amongst others who spoke on the occasion included Ms Ambika Soni, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prof. C.N.R. Rao, National Research Professor, Prof. A.K. Sood, Prof. Shenggen Fan and Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Mr. R.C. Sobti.
