Dense Fog Disrupts Flight Operations Across North India

New Delhi, India — December 19, 2025

Flight operations across North India were severely affected on Friday morning due to dense fog and extremely low visibility, impacting air travel at several major airports, including Delhi. The Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed that weather conditions could continue to disrupt flight schedules nationwide.

In an official statement, the ministry urged passengers to stay in touch with their respective airlines and regularly check flight updates. It also warned that additional delays may occur due to fog and haze conditions. Travelers were advised to plan for extended waiting times at airports.

Indigo Issues Passenger Advisory

IndiGo Airlines also released a travel advisory, warning passengers of potential delays due to reduced visibility caused by fog in Delhi and other parts of North India.

In a post shared on social media, IndiGo stated that low visibility during early morning hours could affect flight operations. The airline emphasized that safety remains the top priority and requested passenger cooperation, noting that such weather-related disruptions are common during winter.

Passengers traveling during morning hours were advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

CAT-III Operations at Delhi Airport

At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, flight operations are currently being conducted under CAT-III conditions, which allow aircraft to land in extremely low visibility. CAT-III operations require specialized pilot training and advanced navigation systems to ensure safe takeoffs and landings.

Delhi Airport authorities confirmed that ground teams are working in close coordination to manage operations amid the challenging weather conditions.

Air Quality Remains Severe

In addition to fog, air pollution levels in the national capital remained critically high. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 387 on Friday morning.

As per data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 7 a.m., AQI levels in several areas were recorded as follows:

  • Alipur: 306

  • Anand Vihar: 442

  • Ashok Vihar: 392

  • Aya Nagar: 397

  • Bawana: 384

  • Burari: 313

  • Chandni Chowk: 390

Authorities have advised residents to limit outdoor activities, especially during early morning hours, as fog combined with high pollution levels continues to pose health risks.
