 — : India has recorded a fresh spike in COVID-19 cases, with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reporting 1009 active infections as of this evening. According to the official COVID-19 dashboard on mohfw.gov.in, this marks a significant jump from approximately 200 active cases last week, raising concerns across states.

What’s adding to the concern is the detection of two new COVID-19 variants in the country—NB.1.8.1 and LF.7—with cases surfacing in multiple states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Kerala, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

Two COVID Deaths Confirmed, Young and Elderly Victims Reported

Tragic news has emerged as two individuals have succumbed to the virus. A 21-year-old patient in Thane, Maharashtra and an elderly individual in Bengaluru, Karnataka have died due to COVID-19 complications. These are the first known fatalities linked to the latest wave of infections.

Two New COVID-19 Variants Detected: What We Know So Far

Health officials have identified two new variants of the coronavirus currently under observation:

  • NB.1.8.1: Detected in Tamil Nadu

  • LF.7: Four confirmed cases, flagged for monitoring by the World Health Organization

The LF.7 variant, in particular, is being closely observed for mutations that may affect transmissibility or severity.

Hospital Preparedness & Government Guidelines in Place

Amid the rising cases, state governments have issued fresh COVID-19 advisories. Hospitals are being placed on alert and precautionary testing measures have resumed in high-risk zones. The Health Ministry, however, maintains that there is no cause for panic, urging the public to get tested if symptoms appear and to follow standard COVID protocols.

Despite the rise, officials stress that the situation remains under control and emphasize awareness over alarm.

Active cases have been reported in over 20 states and union territories, with hotspots emerging in:
