Congress Working Committee Meets in Patna for the First Time: Bihar Unit Faces Anger Over Seat Allocation

For the first time as a political party, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is holding its meeting in Patna. The agenda is clear: to strengthen the party in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections. While some leaders continue to make outside statements on issues like vote theft, the central focus of the CWC is on rebuilding and reorganizing the Bihar Congress.

Concerns Over Disturbances at Sadakat Ashram

Sadakat Ashram, the Congress headquarters in Bihar, has seen frequent disturbances in the past year and a half, including fights and viral videos. With over 150 Congress leaders from across India gathering for the meeting, concerns about unrest have resurfaced. Senior leaders have been alerted, and preventive measures are being taken, but unease remains high, especially with Rahul Gandhi’s visit expected.

Ticket Distribution Anger

The biggest source of discontent is the ticket distribution process. Congress had sought online applications for all 243 assembly seats, but little progress has been reported. With election notifications likely in the next 10 days and voting expected between late October and November 20–22, ticket seekers are growing restless. Many leaders feel sidelined, and their patience is wearing thin.

Leadership Under Scrutiny

Tensions have also risen against state in-charge Krishna Allavaru, state president Rajesh Ram, and former state chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh. Ticket seekers allege bias and delay in seat-sharing arrangements. Preparations had initially been made for around 70 seats, but uncertainty now surrounds even that number. Allegations include sidelining of old-timers, screening out upper-caste leaders, and favoritism in candidate selection.

Message to Rahul Gandhi

Preparations are also underway to present three key names directly to Rahul Gandhi during the meeting. Inside the Ashram, security and organizational duties have been heightened to maintain order. Outside, Congress workers are waiting anxiously for clarity on their political futures.

The Patna CWC meeting highlights both the urgency and the fragility of the Congress’s position in Bihar. Whether the leadership can resolve its internal disputes and project unity will play a crucial role in the upcoming elections.
