Inaugurating a daylong conference eMedinewS Revisiting 2011, Dr. A.K. Agarwal, President Delhi Medical Council, Chief Guest for the function, said that as per the proposed National Commission for Human Resources for Health Bill 2011, both the Central and the State Governments will have power to impose the monitory penalty not exceeding Rs. 10 lakh for professional misconduct.
Dr. Agarwal said that all doctors should improve their communication with the patients so that unnecessary litigations are avoided.
Guest of Honour for the function Mr. B.S. Ratnakar, General Manager, Central Bank of India, said that time has come for people to plan their health budget. He advised the general public to get compulsory medical insurance done so as to get best of the medical facilities.
Dr. KK Aggarwal, Padmashri & Dr. B.C. Roy Awardee, President of the Conference, said that Medical Ethics’ definition needs to be changed in view of medical profession coming under the Consumer Protection Act. Under the Consumer Protection Act, a medical clinic is a shop and patients a consumer. In that sense, medical advertisements should be allowed to the doctor. Under the Medical Ethics, the same is not allowed.
Guest of Honour, Dr. Girish Tyagi, Registrar, Delhi Medical Council, said that most of the medical errors are preventable and are linked to prescription writing.
Late Dr. K.B. Sharma was awarded with eMedinewS Lifetime Achievement Award. eMedinewS Medical Statesman of the Year Award was given to Dr. Alka Kriplani. Various doctors were also awarded eMedinewS Doctor of the Year Award which included the following: Dr. Praveer Aggarwal, Dr. Chandresh Jardosh, Dr. T. Samraj, Dr. Balraj Singh Yadav, Dr. Ravikant Singh, Dr. Sujay Shad, Dr Kusumchandra, Prof Manoj Sharma and Dr J N Banvalikar.
eMedinewS Popular Science Award was given to Mr. Gurmit Singh and Punita Sharma Arora for developing the first indigenous cardiac stents in the country.
