Central government made several action plans to deal with floods

New Delhi : A high-level committee headed by Minister Amit Shah approved several disaster mitigation and capacity building projects for various states, including dealing with floods and preventing floods caused by the bursting of glacier lakes. The committee approved nine proposals for funding from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) and National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

The approved schemes include six projects in Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bengal and Maharashtra with a total cost of Rs 2514.36 crore for flood management. According to the official statement, the six cities in which this amount will be spent include Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune.

Rs 5000 crore allocated to NDRF

The committee also considered the proposal to implement the Yuva Aapda Mitra Yojana in all 28 states. Under the scheme of expansion and modernization of fire services in the states, the committee also approved three projects worth Rs 810.64 crore for Assam, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Several steps have been taken to prevent major loss of life and property during disasters by strengthening the disaster risk reduction system in the country.

The central government has allocated a total of Rs 5,000 crore under NDRF for this scheme and has already approved the proposals of 11 states at a total outlay of Rs 1691.43 crore. Apart from this, the committee also approved a project proposal for glacial lake outburst flood risk mitigation at a total outlay of Rs 150 crore for the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

Approval to Yuva Aapda Mitra Yojana

The high-level committee also approved the Yuva Aapda Mitra Yojana at a cost of Rs 470.50 crore. Under this, 1300 trained Aapda Mitra volunteers will be prepared as master trainers in 315 most disaster-prone districts of the country. Apart from this, 2.37 lakh volunteers will be trained.
