CBI arrests an Executive Engineer of CPWD and recovers Rs. 85 Lakhs in on-going investigation relating a bribery case of Rs. 15 Lakhs

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Executive Engineer (planning) working in the office of Additional Director General (Border) CPWD, Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi in an on-going investigation of a contract relating to construction of high altitude road at Leh (J&K) awarded to NPCC by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

During the search, a sum of Rs. 85 lakhs in cash was recovered at his instance.

The CBI had earlier registered a case against the General Manager, NPCC, Faridabad; his brother (Ghaziabad based contractor); Joint G.M., NPCC, Dehradun; Director of a Hyderabad based company; three other private persons and unknown others. It was alleged that GM, NPCC, Faridabad abused his official position and entered into a criminal conspiracy with other accused persons and unauthorisedly released mobilization advance of Rs. 16.71 crores in favour of a Mumbai based Company, which was subsequently transferred to the Hyderabad based Company in a Rs. 200 crores contract pertaining to construction of a high altitude road at Leh (J&K) awarded to NPCC by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The CBI had earlier arrested the Joint General Manager, NPCC Dehradun for accepting a bribe of Rs. 15 lakhs, the Ghaziabad based contractor and his three Employees for giving bribe to accused Joint GM, NPCC. More than Rs.One crore in cash besides bank deposits and investments of Rs. 23.60 Lakhs (approx) were also recovered from their residential and office premises. The accused persons are presently in the judicial custody.

Further investigation is continuing.
