CBI arrests an assistant section officer; a superintendent of central excise & customs and an examiner in an alleged bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Assistant Section Officer, Central Board of Excise & Customs (CBEC), Ministry of Finance, New Delhi; a Superintendent, Central Excise & Customs, Mumbai and an Examiner, Air Cargo, Mumbai in an alleged bribery of Rs. 50,000/-

A case was registered against an Assistant Section Officer, CBEC, Ministry of Finance, New Delhi; a Superintendent, Central Excise & Customs at GST (CGST), Old Custom House, Mumbai & an Examiner, Export Shed, Sahar Cargo, Mumbai, on the allegations that the Assistant Section Officer demanded Rs. 50,000/- as illegal gratification from the Superintendent for favourably processing his promotion file in the Ministry and getting early promotion order. The Superintendent allegedly agreed and offered to pay the bribe amount. It was also alleged that the Assistant Section Officer had introduced his associate (Examiner of Air Cargo) to the Superintendent for acceptance of the bribe amount and its onward transmission.

CBI laid a trap and caught the Superintendent & the Examiner at Antop Hill, Mumbai while the former was handing over an initial amount of Rs. 25,000/- to the latter. Both the arrested accused were produced before the Competent Court at Mumbai and remanded to police custody up to 12.01.2018

The Assistant Section Officer was also arrested at Delhi and was produced before the Competent Court for transit remand, for bringing him to Mumbai.

Searches at the residential premises of all the three accused were conducted which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
