CBI Arrests A Preventive Officer Of Customs In An Alleged Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a Preventive Officer working in the office of Deputy Commissioner of Customs, SEEPZ-SEZ, Andheri (East), Mumbai for demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.25,000/- from the Complainant. A case was registered against a Preventive Officer, working in the office of Deputy Commissioner of Customs, SEEPZ – SEZ, Andheri (East), Mumbai for alleged demand of Rs.Three Lakhs for allowing the Complainant to remove scrap / debris from the notified area of SEEPZ – SEZ. The accused allegedly threatened that if the complainant does not pay the bribe, he will impose penalty five times of the value of work order and also will not allow interior work to be carried out in the Nationalised bank premises. CBI laid a trap and the Preventive Officer was caught red handed while demanding & accepting bribe of Rs. 25,000/- as part payment of total bribe of Rs.Three Lakh. During the search, a cash of Rs.1.5 lakh along with other incriminating documents pertaining to assets, were recovered. Further investigation is continuing.
