New Delhi — : The Akshay Kumar’s comedy flick Housefull 5 kept the cash registers ringing over the weekend, collecting ₹11.72 crore on Sunday alone. Despite the push, it’s still short of covering its hefty production budget. Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan’s much-hyped action drama Thug Life disappointed fans with underwhelming numbers, raising questions about its box office future.

Weekend buzz was high with multiple releases across Indian and Hollywood screens. While Housefull 5 picked up momentum during the weekend, Thug Life and the live-action How to Train Your Dragon failed to strike a chord with the wider audience.

Comedy sequel Housefull 5, led by Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh, has crossed ₹154.47 crore in total. Despite decent weekend gains, critics call the script weak, saying the humor lacks punch. Viewers seem less impressed by the franchise’s fifth outing compared to its earlier hits.

On the southern front, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life managed only ₹69 lakh on Sunday and ₹93 lakh on Saturday. Its total haul of ₹46.37 crore remains far below expectations, especially given its ₹200 crore budget. Analysts blame weak marketing and low audience connection for the poor turnout.

Hollywood’s How to Train Your Dragon (live-action) collected ₹11.29 crore over three days in India. Sunday’s earnings reached ₹4.75 crore. While kids and teens have shown interest, families haven’t shown up in large numbers yet. Technically, the film is impressive, but its box office traction remains average.

Housefull 5 has a slight edge thanks to franchise loyalty, but Thug Life and How to Train Your Dragon need stronger word-of-mouth and marketing support to survive the coming weeks.
