On the occasion of World Dance Day, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Vice Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala released a book named “Women Classical Dancers of India” written by Dr. Aarohi Walia Cheema, Assistant Professor, Department of Dance, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Jaspal Singh appreciated the efforts of Dr. Aarohi Walia Cheema in writing a unique and a rare book covering 48 women classical dancers of all disciplines of classical dance i.e. Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Kathakali. Dr. Aarohi Walia Cheema told that material on different classical dancers was not available in a single book and students had to face difficulties in getting information on classical dancers. Apart from this Dr. Aarohi Walia Cheema has written many other books like “Folk Dances of Punjab (2008)”, “31 Important International Days (2008)”, “Abhinaya Darpana (2009)”, “Ajoki Aurat: Dasha and Disha (2010)”, “Folk Dances of Northern India (2011)”, “Glimpses of Indian Classical Dances (2013)” and “Women Classical Dancers of India (2014)”. On this occasion Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. Navjot Kasel, Dean Faculty of Arts and Culture, Dr. Daisy Walia, Professor and Head, Department of Dance, Punjabi University, Patiala, Mr. S.K. Ahluwalia, Former Divisional Commissioner, Patiala, Dr. Deepak Manmohan, S. Paramjeet Singh Sidhu (Pammi Bai), Dr. Jodh Singh, S. R.P.S. Cheema and Rama Bhalla were also present.
