Bidhannagar Marches Towards Realization of Smart City Tag

The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation held a webinar to share its Smart City Plan with its citizens. Post the assembly elections in the state, the corporation has avowed to fast track the process of reassertion. The Webinar was organized under the leadership of Mr. Sabyasachi Dutta, Mayor, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation at the Poura Bhawan (Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation office). The Mayor shared the Vision of the Bidhannagar Smart City and the way forward.

Mr Alokesh Prosad Roy, Commissioner – Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, Mr Saumen Chakraborty, Chairman – Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council and Mr. Chandrim Banerjee, Advisor BidhannagarMunicipal Corporation were also present.The Mayor started the webinar by inaugurating the new portal for Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation and the theme song for Bidhannagar Smart City initiative. Mr. Dutta insisted that Bidhannagar is on the right way to become a Smarter City by participating in the competition that the Government of India has launched through smart city mission. The Mayor elaborated that the main aim is to provide the amenities and services to the public at their doorstep. Second aim is to recharge ground water& provide quality drinking water to everyone. Third aim is to provide integrated smart governance. The corporation is also working on smart transport facilities through mobile apps, which will save waiting time of citizens while availing public transport.

In his message to the citizens, he requested everyone not to waste precious water as water is scarce and needs to be conserved. He also advised the citizens to care for the neighbours thereby inculcating a common community feeling within Bidhannagar.

Mr Banerjee elaborated on Mr.Dutta’s vision for Bidhannagar Smart City initiative: “We intend to create an Urban Habitat that is ‘Responsive’ to the needs of its stakeholders; ‘Resilient’ to internal & external conditions; ‘Responsible’ towards environment and needs of children, women, elderly; preserving & promoting its ‘Rich’ Culture of Arts and Sports.”

Some of the key initiatives taken up by Bidhannagar in making it a smart city, like skill development and credit linkages to the underprivileged sections of the society, conversion of organic waste into organic manure, smart city LED lighting, laying of underground optical fibres and future green energy initiatives and senior citizen friendly measures like “Pension Day Celebration”, eHealth (Tele Medicine) services, were discussed at length in the webinar.
