The Karnataka Congress is buoyed by the people’s response to the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra and is hoping to further increase its list in the state with a massive convention in Bellary on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the padyatra will enter Andhra Pradesh on Friday. Rahul Gandhi, who started his padyatra from Rampura in Bellary district, will enter Obalapuram in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. After stopping for some time, the padyatra will again enter Karnataka.
Rahul Gandhi will enter from Jajirakallu toll plaza in Andhra Pradesh. He will stay there till 4.30 pm and will resume the journey.
The leaders of Karnataka Congress are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations to make it a big success. The party is looking to repeat the success in the 2013 assembly elections.
Then, Siddaramaiah led a massive Ballari Chalo padyatra challenging the mining mafia and the then cabinet minister Janardhan Reddy in the ruling BJP government.
The party also has a special focus for the Bellary parliamentary constituency, as Congress president in-charge Sonia Gandhi had emerged victorious in the parliamentary elections 20 years ago against BJP’s candidate Sushma Swaraj.
The Congress, which has not done any major program in the Kalyan Karnataka region, is aiming to win over 40 assembly constituencies in the upcoming assembly elections.
The leaders have been tasked to assemble four to five lakh people for the mega conference. Congress party sources said it was going to be a show of strength of the party against the ruling BJP.
Former minister and Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah’s special MB. Patil and senior party functionary Ishwar Khandre have been given the responsibility of final preparations for the convention.
The party expects Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to attend the convention to maximize her influence. PLC/GT
