New Delhi | December 4, 2025:
In a major boost to India’s defense preparedness, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) announced the acquisition of ₹2,461.62 crore in emergency procurement orders from the Indian Army for a fresh batch of Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs) and Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs). The contracts, approved under the fast-track procurement mechanism, include more than 500 Akash SAM units for aerial threat interception and over 1,000 Nag ATGMs for precision anti-armor operations, significantly enhancing deployment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
BDL Chairman & Managing Director V. Uday Bhaskar attributed the achievement to accelerated indigenization under Atmanirbhar Bharat, while Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized the urgency of rapid deployment amid persistent border tensions. The deliveries are scheduled for completion by Q2 2026, taking BDL’s total order book past ₹20,000 crore.
Production at BDL’s Hyderabad facility will be scaled up, generating approximately 2,000 new jobs and incorporating key DRDO technology transfers to reduce import dependence—already cut from 70% to 40% since 2014. The announcement propelled BDL’s stock up 4%, underlining investor confidence despite rising raw material costs, which have increased by 15% globally.
The procurement follows India’s expanding defense export footprint, highlighted by recent BrahMos missile deliveries to the Philippines, and aligns with the government’s ₹1 lakh crore defense export target for 2025. Analysts say the move strengthens India’s strategic autonomy amid Indo-Pacific tensions and bolsters its long-term deterrence posture.
