Avatar: Fire and Ash Crosses $900 Million Globally as Avatar Franchise Hits Historic $6 Billion

Los Angeles | January 2, 2026

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash has officially crossed the $900 million mark at the global box office, further cementing the Avatar franchise’s position as one of the most successful in cinematic history.

According to industry trackers, the film reached the milestone on January 2, 2026, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2025 worldwide, overtaking Jurassic World: Rebirth. With this achievement, the Avatar series has now become the first film trilogy ever to surpass a cumulative $6 billion in global box office revenue.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by Jon Landau, Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the visual-heavy science fiction saga that began in 2009. The film’s sustained international performance has played a key role in pushing the franchise past the historic benchmark.

Strong Performance in India

In India, Avatar: Fire and Ash has delivered a robust theatrical run, earning approximately ₹168 crore net (around $18.7 million) within 14 days of release. Despite strong competition from the Indian blockbuster Dhurandhar, led by Ranveer Singh, the film has maintained its position as the highest-grossing foreign film in India for 2025.

Trade analysts note that the film’s consistent weekday collections and premium-format screenings have helped it retain momentum in a crowded holiday release window.

Franchise Milestone

The Avatar franchise’s $6 billion milestone places it in a league of its own, driven by long theatrical legs, repeat viewership, and strong performance across international markets. Cast members including Oona Chaplin have been credited for adding depth to the latest installment, alongside the franchise’s signature visual effects and world-building.

With additional Avatar films already in development, industry observers expect the franchise’s global box office total to continue rising in the coming years.
