Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Kolkata on November 5 to attend and chair the Eastern Zonal Council meeting at the West Bengal State Secretariat ‘Nabanna’ has been canceled due to his prior commitments.
Officials said that the information about the postponement of the meeting was given to the secretariat, the state government has not received any information on any other date for the meeting. Amit Shah and the Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Sikkim were also to attend the meeting.
Thes issue of resurgence of Maoist activities in parts of eastern Indian states, especially West Bengal and Jharkhand, was also likely to be raised during the deliberation.
According to sources, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also submitted her objections to the extension of the Border Security Force’s jurisdiction to 50 km on the Indo-Bangladesh border and the announcement by the Union Home Minister to set up offices of the National Investigation Agency in all state capitals.
