Washington : US President Joe Biden addressed the people of the country for the first time on Wednesday night after withdrawing from the presidential race. During this, he said that this is the time of the youth now and he is “handing over the torch to the new generation.”
US President Joe Biden has announced to withdraw his candidature from the presidential election to be held in November. Addressing from his Oval Office on Thursday, he said – I want to hand over the torch to the new generation. My defeat was estimated in the internal survey, upset by this, I have taken this decision. I cannot drag my Democrat colleagues with me towards defeat.
Now the torch has to be handed over to the new generation – Biden
Addressing the nation from the Oval Office, for the first time after announcing his withdrawal from the 2024 election race and endorsing Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s candidate as the country’s president, Biden said that this is the best way to unite our nation.
He said, I have decided that the best way to move forward is to hand over the torch to the new generation. This is the best way to unite our country. You know, there is a time and place for long years of experience in public life. There is also a time and place for new voices, fresh voices, yes, young voices and that time and place is now.
Biden further said, we have to unite ourselves for the sake of saving American democracy… It has become clear to me that I have to unite my party in this important effort. I believe that my record as president, my leadership and my vision for America’s future all deserve a second term, but no one can get in the way of saving our democracy.”
Biden said, I got a chance to work for the American people and I am happy with it. But it is not about me but it is about you, your families, your future. It is about us… I believe America is standing at a critical juncture.
Biden praised Kamala Harris
In his address, Biden described Kamala Harris as a qualified and capable candidate for the election to be held in November and said, she is experienced, tough and capable. She has been an incredible partner to me and a dedicated leader for our country. Now the choice is up to you, the American people. America will have to choose between hope and hate. Whether we will keep our republic or not, it is in the hands of the Americans.
He further said that he will complete the remaining six months of his term. He emphasized that he has a busy list of tasks. The President noted that he would work to end the war in Gaza, continue to mobilize support for Ukraine, and reform the Supreme Court.
