Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that with a view to promote pisiculture amongst the farmers of Haryana, a fishery college would be opened in the State. Also, Fisheries Department would be opened in Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar, he added.
Mr.Hooda said this after inaugurating State level Fish Fair organized at Central Fishery Education Institute, Lahli in district Rohtak.
Mr. Hooda said that with a view to ensure food safety and enhance income of the farmers, pisiculture should be promoted amongst the farmers. He said that farmers could earn Rs five to Rs 10 lakh per hectare through pisiculture. He said that agricultural land had been decreasing day by day so the farmers should promote pisiculture along with animal husbandry and horticulture to enhance their income. He said that Indian Council of Agriculture Research has developed new techniques of pisiculture which could increase production of Jhinga fish in saline water. He said that the State Government would give all possible assistance to the farmers for this.
He said that Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh has constituted a working group under his Chairmanship to enhance agricultural production and income of the farmers. He said that Chief Ministers of Punjab, Bihar and West Bengal were members of this working group. The working group had suggested to provide crop loan to the farmers at four per cent interest rate which was later implemented in the entire country. Now the working group has recommended to provide direct subsidy to farmers. It had also recommended that the farmers should be provided 50 per cent profit on their production.
Giving a reference to FDI, Mr. Hooda said that it was in favour of the farming community. The farmers would get appropriate rates of their production and the consumers would get goods at reasonable rates.
On the occasion the Chief Minister honoured 16 farmers of Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat with appreciation letters and souvenirs. He also released five books on the occasion.
