United Nations Population Fund will participate in women empowerment schemes in Madhya Pradesh. This was informed by the Fund’ Country Head Sushri Fredrica Major during a dialogue with Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Mantralaya here today. Sushri Major lauded women’s welfare programmes being conducted in Madhya Pradesh. Terming the programmes as wonderful, she congratulated Chief Minister Shri Chouhan. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan gave her information about Beti Bachao Abhiyan and women’s empowerment schemes. Shri Chouhan informed that Beti Bachao Abhiyan in Madhya Pradesh is not a mere slogan. Such schemes have been launched that daughters are now being considered as boon. Pledge to save daughters is being taken at social as well religious functions.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that work of changing people’s outlook towards girls is being done in the state through Beti Bachao Abhiyan. Several schemes have been launched to make daughter a boon in the state including Ladli Laxmi Yojna, Kanyadan Yojna, 50 percent reservation to women in local bodies and reservation in government service. The Chief Minister said that dream of women’s empowerment will not be fulfilled unless women assume leadership. He also mentioned Gaon Ki Beti Yojna and free of cost uniforms and cycles’ distribution to girl students.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that a scheme is being chalked out to give pension to daughters-only parents after 60 years of age. All the sections of society have been linked with Beti Bachao Abhiyan. He said that Beti Bachao Abhiyan and other schemes implemented in Madhya Pradesh have been emulated by other states also. In fact, Beti Bachao Abhiyan is not confined to a state, but is a global issue. He informed that in a number of Gram Panchayats people now rejoice birth of girls. He said that participation of United Nations Population Fund participation in this campaign will be matter of happiness. The State Government will also extend utmost cooperation to the Fund’s programme for welfare of young girls in tribal areas.
Sushri Major said that laudable works are being carried out in Madhya Pradesh for women’s empowerment. This programme is the need of hour. Social problems will aggravate if these are ignored. Efforts being made in Madhya Pradesh cause happiness. Principal Secretary Woman & Child Development Shri B.R. Naidu, Secretary Health Smt. Suraj Damor and Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Vivek Agrawal were also present on the occasion.
