The Indian box office has slowed down ahead of the upcoming release of Dhurandhar 2, which is expected to arrive in theaters next Friday. The anticipation surrounding the film has already begun affecting the performance of movies currently running in cinemas.
Industry observers say the collections of several films have dipped just before the weekend, raising concerns about how they will perform once the new release hits theaters.
Dhurandhar 2 Expected to Dominate Theaters
With the release of Dhurandhar 2 scheduled for next week, trade analysts believe existing films may struggle to maintain their screens and audience attention.
Many of the currently running titles are already experiencing declining audience interest, and the arrival of a major new release could further reduce their box office momentum.
‘The Kerala Story 2’ Struggles to Reach ₹50 Crore
The film The Kerala Story 2 has now completed 14 days in theaters, but its earnings have slowed significantly.
According to box office tracking platform Sacnilk, the film collected ₹1.51 crore on Thursday, compared to ₹1.65 crore on Wednesday.
So far, the film’s total collection stands at ₹40.21 crore, and it has not yet crossed the ₹50 crore mark even after two weeks of release.
The performance is noticeably weaker compared to the first installment of The Kerala Story, which recorded stronger numbers during its theatrical run.
‘Assi’ Sees Sharp Drop in Earnings
The film Assi has also experienced a sharp decline at the box office.
On its 21st day in theaters, the movie earned ₹8 lakh on Thursday, down from ₹10 lakh on Wednesday.
Its total box office collection has reached ₹10.78 crore so far. Despite featuring Taapsee Pannu in the lead role, the film has struggled to maintain audience interest.
Trade analysts note that even though the film deals with a serious subject, it has not been able to attract large audiences.
‘O Romeo’ Shows Slow Momentum
Meanwhile, O Romeo starring Shahid Kapoor has also slowed at the box office.
The film, which has been in theaters for 28 days, earned ₹28 lakh on Thursday, slightly higher than ₹27 lakh on Wednesday.
Its total box office collection currently stands at ₹71.30 crore.
Despite having a strong star cast, the film has not been able to achieve blockbuster status and remains far from joining the ₹100 crore club, even after nearly a month in theaters.
Industry Eyes Impact of Upcoming Release
With Dhurandhar 2 set to release next week, trade analysts believe the box office landscape could change quickly.
The new film’s arrival is expected to dominate screens and attract audience attention, potentially making it even harder for currently running films to sustain their collections.
