Mumbai, India — February 26, 2026

India’s midweek box office figures reveal a clear divide between new releases and established performers. While recently released films Assi and Do Deewane Shehar Mein experienced noticeable drops in collections on Wednesday, O Romeo continued its steady run, maintaining its dominance in theaters.

Assi Sees Midweek Dip

The socially driven drama Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha, has struggled to attract audiences despite positive attention for lead actor Taapsee Pannu’s performance.

On its sixth day in theaters, the film collected approximately $66,000 (₹55 lakh), marking a significant drop from Tuesday’s $102,000 (₹85 lakh).

The film’s total domestic box office now stands at $760,000 (₹6.30 crore).

Industry analysts note that while the film tackles a serious social issue, audience turnout has not met expectations during its first week.

Do Deewane Shehar Mein Continues Downward Trend

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the romantic drama has also faced box office challenges.

On Wednesday (Day 6), the film earned $48,000 (₹40 lakh), down from $66,000 (₹55 lakh) on Tuesday.

The total collection now stands at $695,000 (₹5.75 crore).

The film stars Mrunal Thakur and Siddhant Chaturvedi in lead roles. Despite its high-profile director and cast, weekday occupancy has remained modest.

O Romeo Holds Strong at the Box Office

In contrast, action thriller O Romeo, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, continues to perform steadily.

On its 13th day in theaters, the film collected $145,000 (₹1.20 crore), slightly lower than Tuesday’s $200,000 (₹1.65 crore).

The film’s total box office collection has now reached $7.3 million (₹60.25 crore).

Starring Shahid Kapoor and Tripti Dimri, the film has maintained strong occupancy levels, particularly in urban markets.

Overall Trend

Midweek numbers suggest that newly released films are facing difficulty sustaining momentum, while established titles with strong word-of-mouth continue to draw audiences. As the weekend approaches, industry observers will watch closely to see whether the newer releases can recover or if O Romeo extends its box office lead.
