Mumbai, India – February 23, 2026
The social drama movie “Assi “ starring Taapsee Pannu, recorded a sharp decline at the box office on its first Monday, collecting ₹49 lakh on Day 4.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film addresses the sensitive issue of sexual violence and the legal challenges faced by survivors. Despite strong critical appreciation, the film has struggled to translate its theme into box office momentum.
Day 4 Collection Update
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Assi earned ₹49 lakh on Monday, significantly lower than its weekend figures. The film had collected ₹1.6 crore each on Saturday and Sunday. With Monday’s numbers, the total domestic collection stands at ₹4.69 crore.
The film appears to have failed the crucial “Monday test,” with earnings slipping into the lakhs after a modest weekend boost.
Box Office Competition
Assi is currently competing with O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor, which earned ₹1.08 crore on its 11th day. Another release, Do Deewane Shehar Mein, collected ₹44 lakh on its fourth day.
Among the competing titles, O Romeo continues to hold a stronger position at the box office.
Performances Receive Praise
While commercial numbers remain modest, the performances have drawn appreciation. The film features Kani Kusruti as a survivor of sexual assault, with Taapsee Pannu portraying her lawyer. Actors Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra, and Revathi also appear in key roles.
Storyline and Theme
Assi explores the emotional and legal struggles of a sexual assault survivor and examines delays in judicial proceedings. The narrative aims to highlight systemic challenges within the justice process, presented through a sensitive and grounded approach.
Industry observers will now watch whether positive word-of-mouth can stabilize collections in the coming days.
