The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail to Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case, allowing his release from Tihar Jail after he deposited Rs 1.5 crore as directed by the court.
Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma passed the order after confirming that Yadav had complied with the court’s earlier directive to deposit the amount by 3 p.m. on the day of the hearing. The interim bail will remain in effect until March 18, when the case is scheduled for the next hearing.
During the proceedings, Yadav’s counsel informed the court that the actor was willing to deposit the funds unconditionally. The court noted that previous demand drafts of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 75 lakh had already been submitted, and the additional payment completed the Rs 1.5 crore requirement.
The court also took into account family obligations, including Yadav’s niece’s wedding scheduled for February 19. Justice Sharma directed that Yadav must appear in person or via video conferencing at the next hearing, emphasizing no discrepancies would be tolerated.
Yadav, known for his comic roles in numerous Hindi films, had been in custody following issues related to the recovery case stemming from a loan taken for a film project. The interim relief allows him to participate in upcoming family events.
