In a landmark moment for the tech industry, Apple has announced a long-term AI partnership with Google that will bring Google’s Gemini model to the next generation of Siri and Apple Intelligence. The collaboration aims to make Siri significantly smarter, more context-aware and capable of performing advanced tasks across apps and devices.
Gemini to Power New Siri and Apple Intelligence
Under the partnership, Google’s Gemini AI will support core Apple Intelligence features showcased at the WWDC 2024 keynote but not yet released to consumers. Apple confirmed that integrating Gemini is meant to strengthen its AI foundation and enhance real-world usability across iPhones, iPads and Macs.
The new version of Siri—expected to debut with a major iOS update in March 2026—will rely heavily on Gemini’s advanced capabilities to deliver deeper on-device intelligence and more natural interactions.
Joint Apple–Google Statement Confirms Major Move
In a joint statement posted on X, Apple said it conducted “extensive evaluation” before selecting Google’s AI technology as a trusted foundation for future Apple Intelligence features.
Apple emphasized that privacy remains unchanged.
AI features will continue to run on-device and through Private Cloud Compute, preserving user confidentiality and Apple’s long-standing privacy standards.
Deal Terms Not Public, but Gemini Model Valued Highly
Neither company disclosed financial details, but a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman suggests Apple may be paying Google roughly $1 billion annually. In exchange, Apple gains access to a massive Gemini model with 1.2 trillion parameters, significantly expanding Siri’s intelligence.
Apple previously partnered with OpenAI for fallback interactions via ChatGPT when Siri could not answer certain questions. With Gemini now powering the next-gen Siri, the future of that earlier agreement remains unclear.
What Will the New Siri Be Able to Do?
Apple plans three major upgrades that could redefine how Siri works:
1. Screen Awareness
Siri will understand what is currently displayed on the user’s screen.
For example, if a friend sends an address, users will be able to say:
“Add this address to their contact.”
Siri will perform the action automatically.
2. In-App Actions
Siri will execute tasks inside apps—far beyond responding to questions.
Examples include:
Finding a specific photo
Editing an image
Sharing the file via email or messages
Siri becomes a true digital assistant capable of performing multi-step tasks.
3. More Personal, Context-Aware Interactions
With Gemini’s intelligence, Siri is designed to understand user habits, preferences and context more accurately, providing more natural and helpful responses.
A Transformational AI Partnership
Industry analysts say the deal could reshape the competitive landscape, bringing Apple closer to AI leaders while giving Google a major role inside the world’s largest consumer device ecosystem.
As both companies continue to develop their AI strategies, the partnership signals an era in which major tech rivals increasingly collaborate to deliver next-generation intelligence.
