New Delhi | December 30, 2025 —

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a high-level meeting with leading economists and policy experts at NITI Aayog ahead of the Union Budget 2026–27, stressing that India’s budget-making process must remain firmly aligned with the long-term Vision 2047 goal of building a “Developed India.”

The consultation focused on crafting a sustainable strategy to maintain long-term economic growth. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said that achieving the 2047 target will require mission-mode reforms across sectors, adding that the idea of a developed India has evolved beyond government policy into a shared national aspiration of 1.4 billion people.

“The country’s policy framework and budgetary decisions must always be connected to the Vision 2047 roadmap,” PM Modi said. “India needs to build world-class capabilities and deepen its integration with global markets at a faster pace.”

Focus on Self-Reliance and Structural Transformation

The meeting, held at NITI Aayog, revolved around the theme “Self-Reliance and Structural Transformation: Agenda for a Developed India.” The Prime Minister emphasized that India must strengthen its economic foundations while positioning itself as a global hub for talent, manufacturing, and services.

Economists discussed ways to boost productivity in both manufacturing and services, enhance global competitiveness, increase domestic savings, and strengthen infrastructure-led growth.

Review of 2025 Economic Reforms

Experts also reviewed the impact of major reforms undertaken in 2025, including GST slab rationalization, the implementation of the Income Tax Act 2025, and allowing 100% FDI in the insurance sector. These measures, participants noted, have helped improve efficiency and investor confidence.

Finance Minister and Top Officials Attend

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery, CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, and other senior officials attended the meeting, which is being seen as a key step in shaping the Union Budget scheduled to be presented on February 1, 2026.

PM Modi urged experts to help India not only tackle domestic challenges but also emerge as a leadership voice in the global economic order. He reiterated the government’s focus on simplifying compliance, improving ease of doing business, and unlocking innovation-driven growth.

In a recent LinkedIn post, the Prime Minister described 2025 as a historic year in India’s reform journey, built on progress made over the past 11 years. “The primary engine of reform is India’s people—our youth, their energy, and their courage,” he wrote, adding that the reforms aim to modernize institutions, simplify governance, and lay the foundation for long-term, inclusive growth.
