Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who turned 60 on Saturday, found himself facing legal trouble on the same day after a Rajasthan consumer court issued a summons in connection with a pan masala advertisement case.
According to media reports, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Kota has summoned the actor over allegations related to the promotion of a pan masala product. The court has also ordered a forensic examination of the signatures on the power of attorney submitted on behalf of Salman Khan.
The matter is scheduled for its next hearing on January 20.
⚖️ What Is the Case About?
The complaint was filed on October 15 by Indra Mohan Singh Hani, a BJP leader and practicing lawyer. In his petition, Singh alleged that Rajshree Pan Masala and Salman Khan misled consumers by advertising the product as “saffron-infused cardamom pan masala.”
The complainant argued that pure saffron costs nearly ₹4 lakh per kilogram, making it unrealistic for such an ingredient to be included in a ₹5 pan masala sachet. He claimed that the advertisement creates a false impression among consumers regarding the product’s ingredients.
🚨 Allegations of Misleading Youth
Singh further stated that such advertisements are misleading in nature, particularly influencing young consumers and encouraging them to consume pan masala. He warned that the promotion of such products could pose serious health risks, including an increased risk of cancer.
The petition alleges that celebrity endorsements give credibility to harmful products, potentially impacting public health.
🎬 Actor Yet to Respond
As of now, Salman Khan has not issued an official statement regarding the summons or the allegations. The case adds to ongoing debates surrounding celebrity endorsements and accountability in advertising.
