New Delhi — : The Massive rains are battering India, forcing the weather department to issue red and yellow alerts across 15 states. Life has been disrupted in many parts as roads flood, rivers overflow, and strong winds sweep through towns and cities.

States like Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Yanam are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall today. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim may see scattered heavy downpours.

Between June 18 and 20, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects stormy conditions in Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Mahe, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Thunder, lightning, and winds of 40-50 km/h may hit various regions.

Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada are also set for strong winds (30-40 km/h) and rainfall. Eastern states like West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha could face thunderstorms with showers in the next 24 hours.

Yellow alerts have been declared for the hills too—Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh may see isolated heavy rainfall. Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, and Himachal are likely to receive rain on June 21–22.

Delhi-NCR is on yellow alert. Clouds have already covered the skies, and light to moderate rain is expected by evening. Gusty winds up to 50-60 km/h could follow. Commuters should prepare for waterlogging and traffic delays.

Monsoon has turned aggressive across both plains and mountains. Himachal Pradesh is bracing for light to moderate rain today and heavier showers after June 20. In Gujarat’s Botad district, torrential rains caused flash floods. Authorities moved 40 people to safety, but five remain missing after their car was swept away in a flooded river.
