Toronto — : The World leaders are arriving in the Canadian Rockies for the G7 Summit, one of the most powerful gatherings on the planet. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to land in Canada today, where global attention shifts to rising conflict in the Middle East and fresh tremors from ongoing trade wars.

As tensions soar between Israel and Iran, and with the shadow of Donald Trump’s aggressive trade policies looming over the talks, the summit promises intense, high-stakes discussions. Many are watching closely after reports that Israel’s strike on Iran and Tehran’s counter-response raised fears of a broader conflict. Trump reportedly vetoed a plan to target Iran’s Supreme Leader, adding more heat to the geopolitical storm.

Tariffs Take Center Stage at G7

While G7 members dominate headlines, several non-member leaders have also been invited by Canadian PM Mark Carney. These include heads of state from India, Ukraine, Brazil, South Africa, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, and the UAE. Tariff disputes are expected to be one of the biggest topics this year.

Trump Sparks Chaos Again

Donald Trump continues to be the summit’s wild card. His past threats—like buying Greenland or making Canada the 51st US state—still echo. French President Emmanuel Macron, on his way to the summit, even visited Greenland, saying, “It must never be sold or taken.”

India’s Growing Global Role

India’s Acting High Commissioner to Canada, Chinmay Naik, confirmed that PM Modi was invited as an outreach guest. This marks the sixth consecutive G7 summit where India joins as a guest nation. Modi is expected to speak on critical issues such as energy, AI, quantum tech, and global innovation. He will also hold key bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit.

India’s recurring invitation reflects its growing weight on the global stage—and what unfolds at this year’s G7 could shape future policy for the world’s most powerful economies.
