India has come forward to help Maldives, which spews venom against India and runs a campaign of ‘India Out’. On the request of the Muizzu government, India has decided to extend the treasury bill of US $ 50 million to Maldives for another year. Muizzu government has expressed gratitude to India for the budgetary support received by Maldives.

India helped Maldives financially

The Indian High Commission said in a statement that the State Bank of India (SBI) has subscribed to the treasury bills of the Maldives government of $ 50 million for another year on completion of the previous subscription. In the month of May this year, SBI had subscribed treasury bills of $ 50 million under the old system on the request of the Maldives government. These subscriptions have been made as “emergency financial assistance” on the special request of the Maldives government.

Maldives expressed gratitude

Maldives Tourism Minister Ahmed Adeeb reacted to the help provided by India. He wrote in a post on X, “Expressed gratitude to the Government of India for extending significant budgetary support with the rollover of $50 million treasury bills. Adeeb said that this strengthens the deep ties between our countries and strengthens our path towards economic stability and growth.”

Why did the sourness between India and Maldives increase

Let us tell you that earlier this year, there was a tremendous sourness in the relations between India and Maldives. In January, PM Modi had posted some beautiful pictures of the island while visiting Lakshadweep.

Seeing these pictures, people on social media started saying that tourists should visit Lakshadweep instead of Maldives. Maldives did not like this statement of the people. After this, some ministers of the Maldives government commented against India. After this, the dispute between the two countries deepened. ( PLC & GT )
