PM Modi and PM Lawrence Wong visit AEM, a key semiconductor firm, and strengthen India-Singapore cooperation through a new MoU, focusing on advanced manufacturing and semiconductor development.

Singapore : Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, visited AEM, a prominent Singaporean company in the semiconductor and electronics sector. They received a briefing on AEM’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain and its future operations, including expansion plans in India. The Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association also discussed Singapore’s growing semiconductor ecosystem and potential areas for collaboration with India. Several representatives from other Singaporean companies in the sector were present, highlighting the strong engagement between the two countries in this critical industry.
Prime Minister Modi extended an invitation to Singaporean semiconductor companies to participate in the upcoming SEMICON INDIA exhibition, scheduled for 11-13 September 2024 in Greater Noida. This exhibition is part of India’s broader effort to develop its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and attract international investment and collaboration.
The meeting also saw significant developments in strengthening bilateral cooperation between India and Singapore. During the 2nd India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable, the two sides agreed to add Advanced Manufacturing, with a focus on semiconductors, as a key pillar for future cooperation. They further concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership, marking a critical step in enhancing technological and industrial collaboration.
During the visit, both Prime Ministers interacted with Indian interns from Odisha’s World Skill Center undergoing training in Singapore, as well as Singaporean interns who had visited India under the CII-Enterprise Singapore India Ready Talent Programme. They also met with Indian engineers working at AEM.
The visit underscores the commitment of both India and Singapore to deepening cooperation in the semiconductor industry and other advanced manufacturing sectors, further strengthening the bilateral relationship. Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Wong for his participation in the visit, highlighting the importance of this collaboration for both nations’ economic and technological progress.
