Moscow : An MI-8T helicopter with 22 people onboard has gone missing in Kamchatka, Russia. The aircraft, carrying tourists from Moscow and St. Petersburg, is feared to have crashed into a lake. Rescue operations are in progress amid challenging weather conditions

The MI-8T helicopter, carrying 22 people including three crew members, has gone missing in the Kamchatka region of Russia. The aircraft was on a flight from a site near the Vachkazhets volcano to Nikolaevka, a distance of about 25 km.

The helicopter, which was transporting tourists from Moscow and St. Petersburg, was expected to return to base by 9:30 am Indian time but failed to do so. Despite attempts to establish contact with the crew, there was no response. The helicopter is believed to have crashed into a lake.

Rescue operations are underway, with search teams and additional aircraft deployed to locate the missing helicopter. The search is being hampered by drizzle and fog in the area.
