Chhattisgarh enforces strict rules to curb cow smuggling

Raipur : Cow smugglers are in trouble in Chhattisgarh. The Vishnu Dev Sai government of the state has issued a circular for effective action against cow smugglers, in which cow smuggling, cow slaughter or cow meat found will result in a punishment of seven years. The property of the culprits will also be confiscated.

If cows are being transported in a vehicle, then along with confirming the presence of cows by putting up a flex here, it will have to be told where they are being taken. Also, permission of the competent officer of the district in the prescribed format will also be necessary.

If flex is not put up even after transporting the cows and there is no permission letter, apart from legal action, a fine of Rs 50,000 will be imposed separately. Chhattisgarh Police Headquarters has issued a circular on the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma.

Cow smuggling is no longer possible in Chhattisgarh. Cows cannot be transported without the permission of the competent authority. If found involved in smuggling, the vehicle will be confiscated and action will also be taken against the vehicle owner. The property acquired from this will be identified and confiscated. If a case is found, action will be taken against SPs and Thanedars

In the circular issued by Director General of Police Ashok Juneja, it is mentioned that if violation of rules is found anywhere, then the SPs and Thanedars of the districts falling between the place where the transportation started and the place where the seizure was made will also not be spared. Negative remarks will be recorded in their service book. Effective action will be taken against the accused involved in the incidents of unauthorized transportation (smuggling) of cows and milch animals, slaughter and sale of meat etc.

These guidelines have been issued by the Police Headquarters

A gazetted officer will be appointed as the nodal officer for the prevention and supervision of the said incidents. A training program will also be organized. Financial investigation and money-control will also be investigated in cow smuggling cases. Absconding accused in pending cases will be arrested soon.

According to the cases that have come up in the past years, a special action plan will be prepared for investigation by identifying smuggling routes and sensitive areas.

Action will be taken against animal slaughter places in coordination with the collector. On receiving information about cow slaughter or attempt to do so, immediate action will have to be taken.
