Government Initiative and Targets

The Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, spearheaded by the Central Government and backed by directives from the Madhya Pradesh Government, aims to connect one crore households across the nation with solar power. To achieve this ambitious goal, the Western Region Electricity Distribution Company has commenced preparations, with a particular focus on connecting electricity consumers in 15 districts, including key regions like Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, and Ratlam.

Revised Subsidy Structure

Under the revised scheme, solar plants up to two kilowatts will receive a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt, while those up to three kilowatts will be eligible for Rs 18,000 per kilowatt. Consequently, a maximum subsidy of Rs 78,000 will be provided for plants up to three kilowatts. Notably, the subsidy rates have seen a significant increase from Rs 14,000 per kilowatt as of December 2023 to the current Rs 30,000 per kilowatt, up to a maximum of two kilowatts.

Projected Costs

Understanding the financial implications is vital for prospective beneficiaries:

  • 1 kilowatt: Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000
  • 2 kilowatts: Rs 1,20,000 to Rs 1,30,000
  • 3 kilowatts: Rs 1,80,000 to Rs 1,90,000

Awareness and Outreach Efforts

The Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company has taken proactive measures to disseminate information about the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana. Through various channels, including video conferences, electricity officers across all 15 districts of Malwa-Nimar have been briefed about the scheme, ensuring widespread awareness and participation.

The government’s decision to double subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana represents a significant stride towards promoting renewable energy adoption. By providing enhanced financial incentives and simplifying the application process, the scheme aims to accelerate the transition to solar energy, paving the way for a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
