S. Vijay Kumar is New Mines Secretary

Subramanyam Vijay Kumar, a 1976 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh Cadre, has taken over the charge of the post of Secretary, Ministry of Mines. He has succeeded Smt. Santha Sheela Nair, a Tamil Nadu Cadre IAS officer of 1973 Batch, who had superannuated on 31st July 2010.

With a Master’s degree in Mathematics from St. Stephens College, Delhi University, Shri Vijay Kumar has served in a wide variety of administrative positions both at Central Government and State Government level.

His initial years were spent in various Districts of the State of Himachal Pradesh where his work included management of local area development programmes.

His experience in senior management positions in the Government of India spans a period of over 15 years, during which time he has managed programmes relating to watershed development and rural road construction (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana :PMGSY). He has been Additional Secretary and Special Secretary in the Ministry of Mines since January 2008.

Shri Vijay Kumar who has also a background of e-governance has helped develop e-governance projects for the Indian Parliament, Government of Himachal Pradesh and the Union Ministry of Rural Development. In his current assignment he has helped develop e-governance applications for the Geological Survey of India and the Ministry of Mines. He contributes regularly in the print media on e-governance and other issues.
