5th Certificate Program in Rural Livelihood launched at IIHMR-U

 

 The 5th Certificate Program in Rural Livelihood (CPRL) launched at IIHMR-U. It is a joint initiative of IIHMR-U and BRLF which combines appropriate knowledge and skill components through a unique yet inclusive capacity building initiative. As many as 29 students from tribal population have enrolled in the program. This is the 5th batch of CPRL.  

The programme focuses on the development of capacities of tribal youth from 9 states of the Central Indian Tribal belt. BRLF and IIHMR University have brought together 17 leading organisations in the rural livelihoods sector to facilitate a multi-centre, multi-topic curriculum that covers different dimensions of rural livelihoods. The students were selected from the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh. The students were picked from members of the Scheduled Tribes, De-Notified Tribes/Notified Tribes, and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups/communities from across BRLF mandated geographies.

President, IIHMR University Dr. Pankaj Gupta, in his address during the launch programme, said that through this partnership with BRLF, IIHMR University has been able to greatly enhance its capacity to impact the rural development sector. We put in our best efforts so that the students of this programme get the best of theoretical and practical knowledge, and exposure to proven livelihoods interventions from some of the most challenges parts of India. He urged these students to identify their aim of the life and how the students should be inspired and guided to take the right path towards their goal.

The program has 16 different learning modules in rural livelihoods domain. On completion of the course, these rural professionals will potentially engage at block levels as drivers of positive change within Civil Society Organisations and Government Institutions facilitating effective implementation of social and economic security programmes/projects for tribal rural India.

Pro.f Pramathesh Ambasta, CEO, BRLF, said that there are 10 Cr Aadivasis in India, which is 8.5% of total population of India. However, due to lack of accessibility and development, and long neglect, the standard of life among tribal groups remains poor. It is high time we respect tribal wisdom and bring tribal into mainstream development. He said that with a valuable support of IIHMR-U, this program will certainly benefit the students.

 It is to be noted that few students of earlier batches of CPRL have been successfully placed in Rajeevika, (Rajasthan Grameen Aajivika Vikas Parishad) and Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS).
