31 Naxalites Killed in Bijapur: The Biggest Anti-Naxal Operation in History

INVC News Bijapur, Chhattisgarh – In one of the most significant counterinsurgency operations ever conducted in India, 31 Naxalites were killed in the Karregutta area, located on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border. The operation, which began on April 22, 2025, marks a monumental breakthrough in the battle against the Naxalite insurgency, dealing a severe blow to their operations in the region.

Massive Operation Breaks Naxal Network in Bijapur

According to Bijapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Jitendra Singh, the operation has claimed the lives of 17 female Naxalites and 14 male Naxalites. The authorities have identified 28 of the deceased militants, with ongoing efforts to gather more intelligence about the remaining individuals. The operation, which spanned multiple difficult terrains, successfully destroyed several Naxalite bunkers and hideouts, effectively weakening their grip on the area.

In a statement, Chhattisgarh’s Director General of Police (DGP) Arun Dev Gautam explained that the operation was initiated based on detailed technical field inputs and continuous analysis over a 24-hour period. The meticulous planning allowed the forces to effectively defuse Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted along the difficult hill routes. The forces set up base atop the hill, establishing a helipad to facilitate troop movements and logistical support.

Challenging Terrain: 5000 Feet High Hill Poses Major Hurdles

The operation took place in the Karregutta hills, an area over 5000 feet above sea level, where the geography made the mission particularly challenging. This rugged and densely forested region, spanning approximately 280 kilometers, connects Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. The hilly terrain is scattered with rainwater-filled drains, making it a difficult region to navigate, especially during the rainy season. Despite these challenges, the security forces have managed to carry out a successful operation.

IED Blast Injures Soldiers, Morale Remains High

During the operation, more than eight soldiers sustained injuries due to an IED blast. However, the attack has not dampened the morale of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Chhattisgarh Police, who continue to lead the operation. The authorities stated that although initially reported, Telangana Police and Maharashtra’s C-60 Force were not directly involved in the operation. The Cherla area of Telangana has only been used as a launch pad for tactical purposes.

Tactical Precision and Coordination in the Operation

This operation showcases tactical precision and cross-state coordination in addressing the Naxalite insurgency. Forces involved in the operation meticulously planned the assault to avoid civilian casualties while ensuring that the Naxalites could not escape the trap. The careful disarming of explosive devices along the route also highlights the expertise of India’s security forces in defusing such threats.

The successful completion of this operation has dealt a significant blow to the Naxalite movement in the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border region, marking a milestone in India’s ongoing efforts to combat insurgent groups. Experts believe that this will have far-reaching effects on the Naxalites’ ability to operate in the region, weakening their network and disrupting their supply chains.

What’s Next for the Anti-Naxal Operation?

As the operation progresses, authorities are likely to continue their search-and-destroy missions, targeting key figures in the Naxal leadership and dismantling remaining hideouts in the area. The government’s commitment to fighting Naxalism is stronger than ever, with additional security forces deployed to ensure the long-term stability of the region.
