Popular messaging platform WhatsApp faced a global outage late Saturday evening, causing widespread disruption in communication for users in India and across the world. From message delivery failures to status upload issues, the Meta-owned app left millions of users scrambling for answers.
📲 Users Unable to Send or Receive Messages
The outage, which began in the afternoon, worsened by evening as users struggled to send messages, upload WhatsApp status, or even connect to the app’s web version. While Meta has yet to issue an official statement, social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook were flooded with memes, complaints, and live updates from frustrated users.
One user sarcastically wrote on X, “Mark Zuckerberg must be fixing the wires, but I can’t send a single message in my WhatsApp group.” Another joked, “When Instagram and WhatsApp go down, X feels like the last man standing!”
🌎 A Global Outage: India, US, Mexico Affected
According to DownDetector and several media outlets, the issue wasn’t limited to India. Users in the United States, Mexico, the UK, and other countries also reported problems. Many shared screenshots of failed message attempts and frozen app screens, especially during peak communication hours.
📵 Web Version Also Affected
Both the WhatsApp mobile app and the web interface (WhatsApp Web) experienced connectivity issues. Users noted long loading times and frequent “reconnecting” notifications. Businesses that rely on WhatsApp for customer service also reported interruptions.
