DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 22, 2026

U.S. President Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, describing the discussion as productive and reiterating his push to end the nearly four-year Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Trump emphasized the urgency of stopping the war, calling it “horrible” and a “bloodbath,” with drones killing thousands weekly. He stressed that the fighting must end to save lives.

Trump revealed that a U.S. delegation is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin “today or tomorrow.” He conveyed a direct message to Putin that the war should conclude.

The president highlighted ongoing U.S. efforts to broker peace, noting significant casualties on both sides and the need for both leaders to agree to terms. He described previous settlement attempts as challenging due to deep animosity between the parties.

Trump stated that multiple proposed agreements involving Russia had not been accepted by Zelenskyy, calling it a difficult balance.

Zelenskyy’s office indicated that Ukrainian representatives are coordinating with U.S. officials on documents related to potential post-war security guarantees and economic support.

The bilateral talks align with Trump’s broader comments at the forum about progress toward a deal, while acknowledging obstacles posed by longstanding tensions.
