New Delhi : The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has extended the deadline for Access Providers to comply with its directive on whitelisting URLs, APKs, and OTT links. Initially set to start on October 1, 2024, the requirement is now extended by one month due to requests from Access Providers. This extension gives providers more time to ensure that traffic containing non-whitelisted URLs/APKs/OTT links is blocked, aiming to enhance security and efficiency in the telecom sector.
Key points from the revised directive:
- New Deadline: The revised start date for blocking non-whitelisted traffic will be announced separately, extending beyond the original October 1, 2024 deadline.
- Call Back Numbers: The implementation timeline for call back numbers will be determined separately, in response to specific issues raised by Access Providers.
- Reporting Requirements: Access Providers must update TRAI on their actions within 15 days and submit a compliance report within 30 days from the issuance of the revised Direction.
This extension reflects TRAI’s consideration of the practical challenges faced by Access Providers in meeting the new requirements.
