The Foundation stone of Tourist Information Centre was laid today by Sh.K.K.Sharma Adviser to the Administrator in the presence of Home Secretary Sh.Anil Kumar, Creator Director Sh. Nek Chand, Padam Shree Awardee, Chief Engineer Sh. S.K. Chadha, Chief Architect Smt. Sumit Kaur and Director Tourism Ms. Tanvi Garg . The Tourist Information Centre has been planned to be set up at the site located on Jan Marg near Capitol Complex, Sector 1 on the Heritage path along midway between rotary of Uttar Marg / Jan Marg and rotary near Secretariat on right hand side.
The necessity of Tourist Information Centre has been felt as lots of Tourists visit Capitol Complex to explore the Architecture Tourism by visiting Architectural edifices planned by Le Corbusier. The Tourism official shall issue permits to visit the Secretariat, Legislative Assembly, The High Court and also to facilitate foreign as well as domestic tourists coming to Chandigarh at the proposed Tourist Information Centre at Capitol Complex Sector 1 Chandigarh
This building has been designed under the guidance of Sh. M.N. Sharma, First Chief Architect of U.T, Chandigarh and Secretary Architecture and Urban Planning, U.T, Chandigarh. This building has been planned as a small, compact, functional single storey structure measuring 41’-0” x 41’-0” approximately and 14’-0” high facing North West. The building shall have a reception, souvenir display area, wash rooms .Touch screens Kiosk shall be installed for dissemination of Tourist Information related to Chandigarh
The terrace of the building will be approachable by the Tourists from an open RCC folded staircase on rear side. The terrace will have seating arrangement for tourist and will be partially Solar powered. The paintings are being gifted by Sh. M.N Sharma to be installed in Tourist information Center.
