UAE Minister of Foreign Trade Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi said that the UAE has an economic environment that is flexible and business-friendly, which makes it an advanced, viable and competitive trade centre among world countries.

Attending a plenary session of the 16th edition of the International Economic Forum of the Americas-Conference of Montreal, along with former British Prime Minister John Major and a number of ministers from the Americas, Shaikha Lubna also said that the UAE is the centre of global investment and world trade.

This characteristic of the UAE is reinforced by an ideal environment for business that include tax exemptions, competitive facilities, diversified industrial base and strategic location close to the European and Asian markets, Shaikha Lubna added in her speech on the topic “Middle East and the World Market.”

The UAE economy recorded positive growth rates despite the global financial crisis that affected the economies of the world.

The UAE also continued to promote economic diversification strategy by strengthening the non-oil sectors which accounted for 71 per cent of the GDP in 2009, Shaikha Lubna noted.

The UAE pursues a trade policy based on the openness to trade and achievement of balance in the international market which is driven by 192 countries, she added.

Afterwards, Shaikha Lubna met with Harvey Cornell, Special Advisor to the Secretary General of La Francophonie, or the International Organisation of the Francophonie, and discussed the UAE’s relations with the organisation’s member states.
