New Delhi — : A new ₹20 currency note is now set to enter your wallet, featuring enhanced security, fresh color tones, and a design that reflects India’s heritage. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the rollout of this updated note, keeping in mind both public convenience and counterfeit prevention. While the overall look maintains continuity with the previous version, subtle but powerful changes have been made to reinforce security and promote Indian culture.
What’s Different in the New ₹20 Note?
The redesigned ₹20 note now comes in a light green-yellow color palette, offering a visually distinct look. Measuring 63mm x 129mm, the new note is compact and easier to handle. One of the most noticeable updates is on the reverse side, where the Konark Sun Temple image has been replaced by a stunning illustration of the Ellora Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that celebrates India’s ancient art and architecture.
The updated note also features:
Numerals “20” written in floral design motifs
“₹20” printed in Devanagari script
Micro lettering with the words “RBI”, “Bharat”, “India”, and “20” embedded into the paper for added security
Front Side Features to Look For
The front side remains largely consistent with the existing design to ensure easy recognition by the public. You’ll still see:
A portrait of Mahatma Gandhi
The Ashoka Pillar emblem
The Swachh Bharat logo with the slogan
A language panel representing Indian diversity
The RBI governor’s signature
RBI seal, guarantee clause, and note denomination clearly marked
These elements help maintain continuity and trustworthiness of currency usage in daily transactions.
Why Introduce a New ₹20 Note Now?
The primary motivation behind the redesign is enhanced security. With growing concerns over counterfeit currency, RBI aims to make replication more difficult.
